Lightning, Thunderstorm…Oh my!

I took my sweet time getting up today. I slept late last night to catch up on lectures and never ending acronyms that I have to memorize for school. Some of the acronyms are definitely unique and sometimes funny so they do help me out during exams.

I forgot to set my alarm for this morning and whenever I do that, I usually wake up after getting 8 hours of sleep. I guess you can all that intuitive sleeping for your body?

Breakfast was pretty in pink today with my usual oatmeal+ almond milk + protein powder mix. I ate my last oatmeal raisin bars that Tina sent me and used it as oatmeal toppings with fresh strawberries.

It is raining today, with a side of lightning and thunderstorm. If L.A. drivers drive like they are wearing blindfolds when it rains, today seems like the drivers had blindfolds and 2 left feet.

I was looking forward to lunch today because I was meeting up with my friend Ella. She’s a friend from high school and we work near each other. She’s a busy mom to her beautiful daughter Natalia, a loving wife and a very busy bee working at a PR firm.

With the lightning show going on I wasn’t sure if we were still meeting.

Ella: Hi there, u still ok with lunch today?

Me: Oh yeah, I was just going to email you to confirm. Did you  hear the thunder roar? Scary 😦 but cool

Ella: Ya, and I have a huge window in my office on the 8th floor! There’s lightning too.

Me: Me too, I sit by a floor to ceiling window on the 5th floor. Saw the lightning too, I moved desks for now, using an empty cubicle. I’m such a scaredy cat.

This is how my dramatic mind saw lighting from my office window. When I’m anxious, my mind plays tricks on me 😦

But lunch must go on.

She raved about this casual Greek restaurant a few blocks from work called Gyro King. I don’t know why I’ve never eaten at this place, I lived across the street from it for a year.

The restaurant was in a plaza, sort of like a food court with other restaurants next to it. Gyro King was empty but the Vietnamese restaurant serving hot Pho soup was buzzing.

We both ordered the same plate. Gyro combination plate with brown rice and salad. I thought it was pretty tasty and good. I don’t eat Greek food often so I don’t have a lot of experience to compare it to. I like that they had an option to substitute brown rice.

Next time I would ask to have the sauce on the side and little less rice with more salad. It was very filling and I didn’t finish my food.

Do you cook any Greek food? What’s your favorite recipe? They are so tasty so I’m looking for healthy Greek recipes to make at home.

  1. I like greek food but have never made it myself… I love gyros, spanikopita and tzaziki.

there was a HUGE thunder + lightening storm when we were in Vegas recently… we were on floor 30 and I sat there at our window trying to get a good photo of the lightening bolts… glad I was indoors, though!

  2. I love Greek food. I make Greek salads at home, and I also like scrambled eggs with Mediterranean flavors: spinach, tomato, oregano, and feta cheese of course 🙂

  3. mmm love greek food! And whats up with the rainy weather???

  4. We’re supposed to be getting crazy storms by the end of the week. Since I have no plans and am excited for it to be a lazy weekend, I’m pretty excited about it… nothing like lounging with a movie and a good rainstorm happening outside. 🙂

I don’t eat Greek food often. Which is a shame, because it’s delicious. Especially their baklava!

  5. I love gyros, and I have to get the sauce on the side because every place I have ordered at dumps it on!

Baklava is also super delicious. Other than that, I can’t think of other Green foods I have tried!

  6. I don’t know if it really counts as greek food, but I like to stuff a pita with chickpeas, hummus, onions, cucumbers and tomatoes! So yummy, and healthy! Other than that, I don’t think I’ve had that much greek food!

  7. Your oats look delicious! And I don’t have much experience with Greek food either. I’ve had it twice I think. I just don’t know of any good places in my area!

  8. Oh wow, what a great looking Greek dish. Love the sauce on top 😛 I’m a big fan of Greek food.

Also, I’m terribly scared of thunder and lightning!

Near East makes the most amazing Falafel mix. Admittedly, it’s a box mix, but it really is as good as restaurants. You should check it out!

  10. I love greek food! I have a yummy recipe for a tuna greek salad. I think when you add olives to a dish it just makes it so “Greeky!” 😉
