“I can see clearly now the rain is gone”
I had that song in my head on my way to the gym this morning. I think the weather does put a damper in my mood. When I wake up and it’s raining, I have less motivation to go to the gym, I just want to stay in.
But with the sun out today, I was really looking forward to my workout and being out and about without the worry of rain and crazy drivers.
Workout
I took Body Pump class today. I love taking Body Pump in the morning because I feel like the instructors have more energy and it’s infectious to the rest of the class.
I used my new gloves this morning. I bought it about a month ago (notice the brown nail polish from our engagement photo shoot) and finally decided to use it.
I have been trying it on around the house to try and stretch it out but I think I just need to use it consistently and it will stretch out on it’s own.
I got them because I started getting small calluses on my hand from the barbells used in Body Pump. I get calluses very easily. I got calluses when I was doing Pure Barre workouts consistently last year.
Anyways, I didn’t want any tough man-hands, especially with the wedding coming up. The gloves should help.
Breakfast
I had egg scramble with spinach. While the eggs were cooking, I sprinkled it with Mrs Dash Garlic & Herb. That’s my current favorite seasoning. It really makes everything very flavorful and garlicky. I love my garlic.
Speaking of obsession, I am still eating my oatmeal with peanut butter and Baker’s unsweetened chocolate on top.
I like eating a big breakfast whenever I do strength training workout in the morning. There’s a spike in my appetite after I do any workout involving weights.
Breakfast –> Protein (check), carbs (check) and fats (check). I always try to have all 3 for my meals. It helps me stay full and away from junk food.
Lunch
My lunch are either leftovers, big salad or food that I can assemble together like wraps.
Today’s food assembly included La Tortilla Whole wheat low carb wrap, with Trader Joe’s turkey meatballs and cheese. Microwave until the cheese melts, fold and eat.
Dipped in salsa.
Steamed green beans on the side.
I try to have vegetables with my lunch and dinner, extra bonus if I can sneak in veggies for breakfast too. (i.e spinach with my eggs. green monsters smoothies)
My typical eating schedule:
I don’t like eating big meals, so 5-6 small meals/snacks throughout the day works for me.
8am Breakfast: Bowl of oatmeal with some kind on nut butter and other toppings
10:30 – Snack (Fresh fruit, greek yogurt, cheese sticks, smoothies, home-made snack bars and etc)
12:30 – Lunch: Salad, wraps, sandwiches or leftovers
3 pm – Snack (Fresh fruit, greek yogurt, cheese sticks, smoothies, home-made snack bars and etc)
6:30 pm- Dinner: Protein & Veggies
8:30 – Snack (Fresh fruit, greek yogurt, cheese sticks, smoothies, home-made snack bars and etc)
It’s just too hard to take a picture of everything I eat. I either don’t remember to take the picture, don’t have my camera and sometimes, I’m embarrassed to take pictures of my food when I am dining out with other people.
From time to time, I’ll do a post of my meals for the day. I have a few friends requesting ideas for healthy meals, packing lunches and snacks and want to see how “healthy eating for the day” looks like.
Hey Lea,
love the gloves I also get calluses easily so I have 1 pair and recently bought another one for back up.
Great don’t want those rough hands!
I also eat about 5-6 small meals a day.
7:30am Breakfast grain, nuts & fruit
9:30am a.m. snack – Fruit
12:pm Lunch – greens, protein
3:00pm p.m. snack – fruit & nuts
6-7pm dinner. protein drink with fruit.
It’s best to eat 5-6 meals a day to speed up your metabolism.
Yeah, I do notice that once I started more often, but with smaller meals, my energy is more steady.
What brand of gloves do you use? These gloves are the first ones I’ve purchased and they are ok, I had to take them off half-way thru because my fingers turned purplish…it was too tight 😦
The second pair that I bought were Valeo but my old ones’ are Champion.
Champion seems to be the best hands down compare to the Valeo. The Champion one seems to fit and hug your hand like a glove should.
The Valeo seems a little thick and doesn’t hug my hand as well.
besides breakfast, i don’t really eat meals. i just eat all day. pick at stuff here and there. unless i’m at chickfila….that is a meal. haha
Hahaha I used to do gymnastics so I practically LIVED in callouses! So not cute. Good thing you got those gloves! 🙂 Although, secretly, I kind of like the idea of callouses being like a badge of a hard workout! 🙂
Either the calluses or my growing muscles are like my badge of a hard workout.
I totally feel like I have more energy when I teach pump in the morning too! And hooray for gloves! My hands get super rough too- so I wear them for every class. Mrs. Dash has the best seasoning blends. And I have to do 5-6 mini meals a day. Keeps me satisfied!!
I usually eat 6 smallish meals…..that way I have a consistent amount of energy, rather than a spike and crash!!!!! 😀
So true, that’s why I started doing the small meals too. It wasn’t that way a few years ago
I’m all about gloves when lifting, I’ve always calloused easily too. I feel like they really help me get a better grip on the weights too, and thus I can lift more/better.
My eating schedule sounds just about exactly like yours 🙂
I did notice that when I started wearing the gloves, that I felt like I can lift more and actually added more weights to my barbell. I’m not sure if it’s just mentally I feel stronger, the gloves definitely make me feel tougher.
I eat all day 😉
My “breakfast” is about 200 cals, then lunch is 3 hours later and is about 350 cals. Midday snack is around 200 cals, then dinner is closer to 600 cals (incl a glass of vino).
All I could think about in this post was the Seinfeld episode where Jerry dates a woman with man hands 😉
I haven’t seen that episode, hopefully I’ll catch it from the re-runs. I’m curious to watch it now.
I’m a big snacker and eat several small meals too. Definitely love oatmeal for breakfast (I just did an oatmeal series on my blog and a couple had coconut – made me think of you!)
Aww, thanks for thinking of me 🙂 I like to add coconut to anything, but I try to remember to note that it’s optional when I’m posting the recipe, lol
I usually eat three big meals and two big snacks. Mmm…
Dude, garlic is the bomb.
Matt, thanks for making me laugh with your comment. Garlic IS.THE BOMB.
I eat throughout the day just like you do!!!! 😀 5-6 times a time. 🙂
I love Oats, Peanut Butter, and Baker’s Chocolate together!!! 😀 SO GOOD!
