Hello Healthy Coconut readers!!! So happy to be guest posting for a fellow Southern California blogger – congrats on your wedding, Lea!
I write “The Actor’s Diet,” a daily look into my life as an actress living in Hollywood, meal by meal. Here’s an old post from the set of “Yes We’re Open,” an indie movie I recently finished shooting, showing what it’s like to film food scenes.
We started this morning eating Kimchi Quesadillas – only they used ketchup for kimchi
Woolwich Goat Cheeses and red peppers filled the flour tortillas as well
I ate half a banana walnut muffin while getting hair and makeup done
We got a donation of tortilla chips from Whale Tails, which I reviewed (and adored) a year and a half ago
They were supposed to be for crafts service, but also got incorporated into the movie!
Went perfectly with the guacamole
I didn’t wind up eating the “kimchi quesadillas” during the scene, but I did sample a bite of one.
Tried to preserve them since they had to be reset for every single take, and I don’t do well with cheese in general.
But I did consume about a hundred of these during the 3 or 4 hours of shooting…
…plus a lot of “red wine.” The chips made me thirsty, and the grape juice gave me cotton mouth!
But still, nobody had it as bad as Dave, whose character did nothing but eat a whole piece of quesadilla during the entire scene. By the time we were done with his coverage, he had ingested a whole plateful!!!

Awesome guest post!!! 😀
ha! that is so funny – I never thought about having to eat the same food and over and over again to get one scene. I’m sure you get sick of foods because of this and that poor guy probably waited a long time before ordering another quesadilla!
This was fun! I love the shape of those tortilla chips. Thanks for sharing! 🙂
That is too funny! I wonder how healthy someone can be having to eat the same thing during the shoot until they get it right.
Great guest post!
