It’s that time again, the Orange County Fair is back for it’s annual summer fun.
We took advantage of the $2 admission on Sundays and headed out to the fair around 11am. This weekend was opening weekend so even though it was packed, it wasn’t as crowded as usual.
Ironically, most of the food I ate were similar to the ones I had during our honeymoon. Go figure!
We had these fried potatoes served on a stick called Twistix at the beach in Boracay. They were really flavorful and we ate each chip one by one savoring the barbeque seasoning and cheddar cheese on the other half of the stick.
Today at the fair, we ate the same thing with cheese but without the stick or the beach
Street vendors sold roasted corn in Boracay right along the beach. They were simple and meant to be eaten as is.
But today’s corn was more complicated. Not only was it juicy, there was a self serve bar for all the toppings you can add to it.
Along with butter and cheese, lime juice and cayenne pepper were added to the corn. Complete with everything Chris added on, in the end, it was probably a seven layer roasted corn special.
We are doing our part eating local food. “Be Californian. Buy California.”
I also ate falafel and gyro dishes, which I shared with my friend Caroline.
In the sea of deep fried this, deep fried that and deep fried kool-aid…there were also some healthy food available. You can also request to have these covered with chocolate if you wish.
Or you can have this too if you want.
We had a wonderful and very hot day at the fair. I loved this year’s theme “Let’s Eat” because it included an area where you can walk around fruit and vegetable gardens, which I enjoyed every much.
How fun! looks like a beautiful day too!! deep fried kool-aid?? are you kidding? mmm corn on the cob!
That fair looks like so much fun! I love those fried potatoes on a stick! They look delicious!
Fairs are fun! Love the corn on the stick with all those topping options!
You look adorable in that hat too!
xoxo ❤
I wish I lived in California. 🙂 it’s so much easier to eat local too 🙂
Love fairs! Great to see some non-deep-fried options, too!
Oh boy that food looks good seems they are stepping up and having better quality of foods although most fairs are typical hot dogs, fried foods and what not I think the items you posted or to me a notch above the usual. Right?!
We might head out there this Sunday with the family, Yummm can’t wait.
You are right. I only showed you the food that I ate, or shared with my husband. BUT the rest of the typical county fair food is still there, it’s bigger and more fried as ever. There is deep fried kool-aid this year.
But their theme this year included a section of Eat, Live, Grow and there are gardens and vendors to show you how to eat, live and grow locally. I love that part. It has inspired me to grow my own garden. Will show more pictures soon, part 2.
Awesome! on Sparks many have there little gardens too bad I can’t only in pots.
But you never know just a few things like tomatoes, chilies and bell peppers would be great as I can use them in a lot of dishes.
Can’t wait to see what you have planned.
Very nice blog. I just finished mine and I was looking for some design ideas and you gave me a few. May I ask you whether you developed the website by youself?
