Holiday Comfort and Joy

I am the type of person that gets really cheesy and mushy during Christmas season. I’m affectionate to my friends and family throughout the year but when holiday comes, it seems to go on over-drive.

I really believe in the magic that the holiday season brings. There is a sense of warmth, generosity and cheerfulness in the air during Christmas time that I don’t feel any other time during the year.

I have a very blessed life and towards the end of the year, I reflect on everything that I am grateful for and the people in my life that brings so much joy. I sometimes feel like I can’t express my gratitude enough to my friends and family. But seeing them during our holiday gatherings brings so much comfort and joy. It is very special and it is always a joyous event.

What brings joy and comfort during the holidays for me?

• Family Traditions – Our family gather together during Christmas Eve and attend Midnight Mass.

This is the only time of the year where all of us (including extended family) are together. It includes cousins, aunts and uncles and close family friends. With about 10+ families in attendance, it can get crazy. But in a fun, crazy way. We organize a talent show from each family and it’s usually the youngest member who is performing. Luckily, I’m way pass my talent show days.

• Home Comforts – I  look forward to decorating our home with festive decorations, picking out the fresh Christmas tree with my husband, seeing all the beautiful Christmas lights surrounding us, the smell of scented candle, and drinking hot chocolate and relaxing together cozy in-doors.

• Delicious Food – I love the smell of gingerbread and sweet pastries during Christmas. There is always cookies, cakes, pies and candies readily available. I also look forward to the traditional filipino food and desserts that my family makes, it reminds me of holidays growing up.
