Before I met my husband, I’ve never had fresh and live Christmas tree. I grew up using a fake tree that we re-used every year. I guess it was easier for my dad to rely on a boxed tree that he can assemble easily. Having five girls in the house, he really did not have much help with regards to lifting and transporting live trees around.
Since I’ve had fresh Christmas trees several years now, I actually prefer it much more than the fake ones.
I love the tradition of picking out the tree, cutting and saving an inch from the bottom of the tree to save as memento and decorating it. The smell of fresh pine tree is also very uplifting and festive to me.
We finished putting up all our holiday decorations in time for a holiday party we hosted this past weekend.
It has been a busy and eventful year for us. The ornaments we have hanging on our tree have stories behind them and this year picked up new ones.
Here are the new additions to our tree this year.
Our “newlywed” ornament that we got during our recent travel. I asked the store to put the year and our wedding date on the back.
We spent a lot of time at the beach this year in Mexico and in the Philippines. This beach themed ornament reminds me our honeymoon.
Fish ornament filled with sand. Our lives is filled with fishing, eating fish, swimming with fish, working with fish, attending wedding surrounded by fish and etc.
This Disney ornament is not new, but I don’t think I’ve posted it on the blog before. It’s our Disney themed ornament from 2010.
I try to highlight different ornament colors each year. We always use gold and silver ornaments and this year, we added blue and green accents to the tree.

OOoo your tree is really gorgeous! I wish we had some more sentimental ornaments, but for now it’s about 85% balls and only 15% unique / special. Hope to change that in the years to come 😉
