motivated with fitbit

walking with fitbit

I recently started wearing a fitbit flex, it’s a bracelet that tracks your activity for the day. I am tracking my steps, and since I work a desk job,  my daily goal is 9,000 steps (I changed it from the factory setting of 10,000 steps).

It’s achievable but I have to actively find ways to add steps, like parking in the far corner and taking the long way to get coffee. I also wish there was a far away printer I can use so that it forces me to walk a distance to get my work. Who knows, maybe the novelty of wearing the fitbit will wore out (which I heard happens to other people), but for now, it’s giving motivation and I’m holding on to that.

So far it has motivated me, to go for walks after work with the stroller or late in the evening after baby has gone to sleep. I’m also taking barre classes (which is helping a lot with my core), so that’s another way that I keep active. Ever since I had Baby H last year, I feel like my exercise hasn’t been as consistent as I would like, and hopefully my new gadget will help me stay on track. I’m a numbers kind of girl, it’s what I do for a living, I like setting goals, I like talking numbers so for my type of personality, having a fitbit actually helps me stay motivated.

I am even entertaining the thought of running first thing in the morning before the hubby leaves for work, which means waking up at 4:30 and out the door by 5am. It hasn’t actually happened yet, just waiting on getting a little horn blower that I can carry with me to help scare some coyotes away. Our neighborhood have coyotes and I was scared to go out for a run on my own because I didn’t know what to do if I see one during my run, I have heard scary stories about these coyotes 😦  A friend of mine carries a mini horn blower and if he saw coyotes, he blows the horn and they run away.

Have a fun and active weekend. I know I will.
